The famous Hotel Don Carlos was recently acquired by Brookfield Asset Management, a Canadian fund that wishes to maintain the unique pedigree and heritage of this iconic Costa del Sol hotel while ensuring it meets all the requirements of a 21st century luxury resort. The group has just made a huge investment in the Spanish hospitality market by purchasing the Selenta Group for €440 million, which includes the 5-star Marbella hotel. The fund has been in operation for more than 100 years and this new venture adds to a total of $600 billion currently under management in more than 30 countries worldwide.
Meanwhile, the famous Four Seasons group is also developing plans to open a luxurious 5-star deluxe hotel in Río Real. The up-market development will occupy a plot of around 325,000m2 with a total investment of €700 million. As well as the 180-room hotel, the prestigious resort will also include 200 apartments and 40 luxury villas that will all be directly connected to the beach area, which will feature a beach club (The Surf Club) and a smaller, more boutique hotel with 30 rooms right on the shoreline.
Another luxury 5-star hotel in the immediate area, which is visible from the main A-7 coast road is the Hotel Los Monteros Spa & Golf Resort. A classic Marbella venue, also includes the elegant La Cabane Beach Club, a popular venue for sophisticated Marbella residents and visitors alike.
Marbella East is also known for its quality of life, its amenities and easy access to Marbella, Málaga and the international airport. At the very heart of this area is Elviria, an elegant residential zone that extends from the sea to the hills.
Leafy suburbs, golf and beaches
At the beach, chiringuito bars and renowned seafood restaurants such as trendy outdoor venue Nikki Beach, the Vincci Beach Club and its spa, La Plage Casanis Beach restaurant and the elegant La Scala, all share a shoreline of spectacular scenic vistas with other trendy beach clubs and luxury frontline beach apartments and villas.
Close by also are the extensive greenery of the Santa María Golf Club, the Marbella Golf Club, Santa Clara, Río Real, the nine-hole Elviria Hills course and the Aventura Amazonia tree park. Head a little further inland and the terrain begins to gently slope upwards towards Elviria Hills, and further on the footslopes of the coastal mountain ranges. The latter is a hill club environment with an almost rustic feel – surrounded by open countryside, yet just a few minutes from the shoreline it overlooks.
Within Elviria, the focal point is the open air commercial centre that is a hub of restaurants offering Spanish, Italian, Asian and other cuisines, as well as tapas bars, cafés, nightlife venues, boutiques, decoration shops, banks, travel agents, a supermarket and a wide range of professional services.
The most sought-after location in Elviria, as anywhere in Marbella, is however a beachfront location close to those wonderful dunes dotted with trees, where the scent of the sea mingles with the freshness of pine, the sunlight is gently diffused, and a soft breeze plays in the air with the distant sound of seagulls and waves.
Elviria, east of Marbella, provides the perfect spot to relax, enjoy a healthy lifestyle, and savour the view back across to Marbella as you watch the sun setting behind Gibraltar and North Africa.
