Villa Lovina is truly one of a kind. How did you approach designing such a unique space?
Marisa Gallo (MG): The starting point was understanding the essence of Balinese architecture—its spirituality, natural materials, and open connection with the environment. We wanted to honour this authenticity while adapting it to Marbella’s Mediterranean context. The challenge was blending two distinct styles without compromising the character of either. For Villa Lovina, the goal was to create a tranquil haven that complements the vibrant lifestyle of Marbella.
What were the main elements you focused on to achieve this balance?
MG: We paid a lot of attention to detail through from the exterior to the interior. The lush tropical gardens are key, as they evoke the natural beauty of Bali. Exotic plants and the infinity pool play an integral role in creating that serene ambience. Inside, we emphasised spacious, open layouts with floor-to-ceiling windows to seamlessly connect indoor and outdoor spaces.
We also incorporated Balinese design elements, such as handcrafted wood and natural stone, but gave them a contemporary twist to suit the modern Marbella lifestyle. Lighting was another focus—soft, natural tones enhance the villa’s sense of calm while highlighting its luxurious finishes.
What do you think makes Villa Lovina so special for Marbella’s property market?
MG: It’s the fusion of two worlds. Villa Lovina offers the peacefulness of Bali but within the sophistication and vibrancy of Marbella. This villa isn’t just a home—it’s an experience. It appeals to those who want a sanctuary that still feels connected to the luxury and energy of the Costa del Sol.
